Proper Computer Security

If your computer is connected to the internet, I can guarantee that you will need good security. If you have security right now, I will almost be money that you paid for it. Well, I'm here to tell you that you don't have to do that anymore. There is a load of free security software out there, and I'm here to tell you the best of it.
You will need 3 crucial components: A firewall, Anti-spyware, and Anti-virus. Here are my personal recommendations, based on all my experiences and problems with my computer. All links are direct downloads. Firewall: ZoneAlarm Free
This firewall has worked miracles for me. I would recommend it to anyone. I had a virus, and this stopped the problem almost completely after I got it (I got the virus and then got the firewall to break its access to the internet). It nearly ended the problem right then. If you are using Windows Firewall, disable it. It is CRUD and not worth using. How do you do that? Click Start and then click Control Panel (if you are using the classic start menu, then point to settings and click it). On the right-hand side, if it says "Switch to Classic View," click it. Now, click Windows Firewall. When the box comes up, choose to disable it or turn it off. Click OK and you're done. ZoneAlarm 8: http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/free/1025_update/zaSetup_en.exe

Avast! Anti-virus is absolutely incredible. This anti-virus will do a boot-time scan, which means it will scan your computer before it boots into windows. If you have around 100gb of data on your drive, it will take somewhere around 4-6 hours. But, it will get rid of most any virus you have. It removed the same problem that ZoneAlarm stopped, after the computer began to work again (ZoneAlarm stopped the virus from doing its job, and Avast! removed the virus). Avast! cannot be beaten by any other free anti-virus software. People will recommend AVG anti-virus to you, I can almost guarantee it. I used to use AVG and I thought it was amazing. If you use it, you may think that too. When I switched to Avast!, I say a MAJOR change. Avast! started to catch things that I didn't even know I had. Spyware Blaster
I know that this seems like a lot, but it is worth it, trust me. I used to use just one anti-spyware program and every time I scanned, I found a load of spyware. Once I got more programs, I found less and less every scan. That is because one program will not cut it. You will need more than one and this is the combo to get.
Spybot will immunize your computer to most spyware and it will also scan to find anything that is already in it. Spyware Blaster will just immunize your computer, it does not scan. SUPERAntiSpyware will also immunize your computer and scan, but it will find some things that Spybot won't and vise versa. You may think that just one should keep it out, but it won't. Each one will have something it its database that another one won't. This way, you keep the most spyware out of your computer.
